Colonel Gandy: We have everyday heroes among us Published May 19, 2009 By Col. Jerry Gandy Commander, 95th Air Base Wing EDWARDS AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. -- I echo the words of Gen. Donald Hoffman, commander of Air Force Materiel Command. I too have visited several of the World War I and World War II cemeteries in Europe to honor our veterans who made the ultimate sacrifice overseas fighting our Nation's battles. It is a very powerful feeling of walking sacred ground among America's Heroes. Moreover, I am also proud of the sacrifices of those right here in the Antelope Valley who have answered their nation's call of "Whom shall I send" with a "Here I am, send me." We have everyday heroes among us making personal sacrifices to serve in providing for our defense by testing and perfecting the Air Machines that slip the surly bonds to Fly, Fight and Win ... today and tomorrow.
