412th TW commander discusses price of freedom Published July 2, 2009 By Col. William Thornton 412th Test Wing EDWARDS AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. -- Freedom isn't free. These words ring true especially this year as the Edwards community lost two comrades and friends in the line of duty. Many of our fellow airmen are deployed around the world supporting combat operations in the Global War on Terror, separated from their families. Total commitment and dedication to our mission has meant long hours in the office, on the flight line, and in the air. But the sacrifices we have made and continue to make are vital to maintaining America's freedom. We must never lose sight of our contributions to the Warfighter in developing the technologies needed to carry out their missions and to better protect our soldiers and airmen. So, this Independence Day please remember all of those who have gone before, those deployed now, and our greater mission. It is an honor to serve with each and every one of you. I wish you all a very safe and enjoyable Fourth of July holiday.
