Air Force announced guidance for the new Supervisor Refresher Course (MAFHRMS420), which will be offered by the Air Force Personnel Professional Development School at Maxwell AFB, Ala., in FY14. This course was designed to meet the federal mandate for follow-on supervisory education at least once every three years after completing the initial supervisory courses. The Supervisor Refresher Course provides a refresher in civilian personnel management fundamentals and key supervisory and management competencies.

Who should attend this course?

The course is open to civilian supervisors who have completed the USAF Supervisor Course, the Advanced USAF Supervisor Course and Civilian Personnel Management Course and the Military Personnel Management Course (MPMC - if applicable) at least three years ago. Force Development Flights, in coordination with the Civilian Personnel Section, should use the Supervisory Training Status Report to identify and notify supervisors for the course. Each class will be open to 200 students. As the FY14 schedule indicated, we will roll out the course in October 2013 and will ramp up to full operational capability by this summer. The School will designate particular classes for overseas student participation.

What do you and your supervisors need to know about the course?

This "on-line" course consists of 20 hours of material and runs over five consecutive days. Students will attend the class in Home Station Learning duty status similar to other Blended eLearning formats like the USAF Supervisors Courses. Live webinars will be hosted via Defense Connect Online and other coursework (readings, videos, activities) will be completed in the Blackboard Learning Management System. Students will be assigned to teams for group activities. They can expect to spend approximately 4 hours per day total on coursework. Students are required to coordinate class work, location, and scheduling prior to the class. Since the class is run on consecutive days, there is less flexibility for absences than in the initial supervisory courses.

How to Enroll in the Supervisor Refresher Course:

Enrollment for the Supervisor Refresher Course is the same as for the initial supervisor courses. The registration site is housed on the Air University Portal. If students do not have an Air University Portal account, they must create one before viewing/registering for a course. To access the registration site, students should go to https://auportal.maxwell.af.mil/auportal/.
