Bikes were flying during the California Racing Club's 30th Annual Dunestown Series Motocross Race at the Edwards dirt track Sunday.

Approximately 280 professional and amateur riders raced at the event, hosted by the California Racing Club and the Desert Wheels Club members.

"The event went well, with no serious injuries," said Tech. Sgt. Johnny Cochran, Desert Wheels Club president. "We had a lot of positive feedback about the track. The California Racing Club has been racing at Edwards for about the last 25 years."

Dale McCoy, a Desert Wheels member, said the event had a really good turn out and weather was perfect.

"Motocross is a very family-oriented sport, and a racing event is the perfect time for the whole family to come out and support each other," Mr. McCoy said. "There are classes for all age groups and skill levels, and it's all about having fun."

Each race involved six to 30 riders. Dirt bikes in the event ranged in size from pee-wee bikes to open class-bikes. Riders were required to wear full safety gear at all times during the race including a helmet, gloves, chest protection, riding clothing and boots.

"I think the track here at Edwards is great," Mr. McCoy said. "It's long and sandy and is more of the traditional style motocross track. Most people say it's their favorite track and always look forward to coming out for the next event. We also have a track for kids or people who are just starting out."

The Dunestown was one of two California Racing Club Sponsorship Series motocross events to take place on Edwards this year. The next race is scheduled to take place on Oct. 28.

"This is a fun event," Sergeant Cochran said. "I appreciate all the people who worked hard for this. Hopefully, we can do more of these events in the future."
