Team Edwards plays for $1 million in golf tournament Published Oct. 9, 2007 By Senior Airman Jason Hernandez 95th Air Base Wing Public Affairs EDWARDS AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. -- Team Edwards played for a chance to win $1 million at the Air Force Sergeants Association Golf Tournament at Muroc Lake Golf Course here Oct. 5. The tournament, which was hosted by the AFSA Spaceway Chapter, consisted of 25 players who competed in an 18-hole game and had two hole-in-one prize opportunities. "The teams had the chance to shoot for a hole-in-one to win a Harley-Davidson Dyna Glide motorcycle and $1 million," said Tech. Sgt. Surita Rori, vice president of the Air Force Sergeants Association here. Antelope Valley Harley Davidson donated the motorcycle while AFSA chapter 1320, with the aid of American Hole 'n One, provided the insurance policy for the million-dollar prize. Each team consisted of four members. However, no one was able to claim either prize. "We were off the green and about 10 feet away from the hole in one," said Senior Airman Christopher Wark, 412th Maintenance Squadron munitions journeyman. "On that one, you had to get a hole-in-one on 17, which is pretty much impossible. The conditions were cold and windy, but we still had a good time." Sergeant Rori said the chapter hosted the golf tournament to get their name out to more people and advertise to Edwards' enlisted members, civilians and the off-base communities. Eight volunteers helped conduct the tournament. "I heard about the event through e-mail," said Master Sgt. Christopher Nagle, 412th Maintenance Squadron munitions flight systems superintendent. "We came to play because we love the game of golf and we also wanted to support an awesome organization." The Air Force Sergeants Association is planning to have more golf tournaments in the future, Sergeant Rori said. "This was our first golf tournament," she said. "We will plan for better weather next year, which may be in late spring or early summer so we won't be up against the elements so much."
