First flight marks temporary runway operational use
Maj. Gen. David Eichhorn, Air Force Flight Test Center commander, takes off in his F-16 Fighting Falcon from Edwards' new temporary runway here May 19. General Eichhorn's flight marked the temporary runway's first use operationally. The temporary runway was built to help sustain base operations during the refurbishing of the main, 15,000-foot runway. (Air Force photo by Jim Shryne)
