Edwards Medics hung their stethoscopes for a day to have fun during the 95th Medical Group Mash Bash May 29 at the Main Clinic's multi-purpose room.

This was the third time the 95th MDG held a Mash Bash, the name of which was based on television series M*A*S*H.

"The Mash Bash was an opportunity for our Desert Medics to relax, enjoy squadron competition and to build camaraderie amongst each other," said Col. Janet Taylor, 95th MDG commander. "Our team is composed of civilian, military, volunteers and contractors, and all are pivotal to our medical group mission and providing 'Simply the Best' healthcare to our beneficiaries. It was also an opportunity for us to remember those medics who paid the ultimate price, 'death' in Iraq and now Afghanistan. Never forgetting, as medics, we can have fun but our primary goal is to take care of our wounded servicemembers and beneficiaries medical needs."

"Mash Bash" is a tradition that most medical clinics have, said Staff Sgt. Marina Boulos, 95th Aerospace Medicine Squadron Community Health noncommissioned officer in charge and one of the coordinators for the event.

"It is where all the medics get together, have fun and build camaraderie," Sergeant Boulos said. "This year, we decided to have an international theme, where we have Airmen dress up in their costumes."

Some of the games included tug of war, litter carry obstacle course, black jack tournaments, pushup and sit-up competitions, pass the orange game and picture contest. Leadership with the 95th MDG also had pie-eating contest and wheelchair race. The event also featured food and drinks.

"Preparation for this event involved a lot of coordinating," Sergeant Boulos said. "Everybody who was tasked did what they were supposed to."

Sergeant Boulos said "Mash Bash" aims to provide an avenue for Medics to relax and meet other people within their organization.

"There are other things going on in people's lives other than just work," she said. "We always do work and our mission. Sometimes, we have to take a break and have fun together."

For Staff Sgt. Davann Irons, 95th AMDS force health management NCOIC and one of the coordinators, she said the event turned out well.

"It was a huge success," Sergeant Irons said. "Everybody participated and had a great time. I also got to meet people I don't really see on a day-to-day basis."
