From start to finish the 412th Maintenance Logistics Squadron was able to handle the shorthanded 412th Maintenance Squadron team during intramural softball play July 27.

"We come out here to play," said Gordon Ruiz the 412th MXS coach. "We don't play to win or lose and I'm proud of my team. We've lost key players to injury and PCS but we still come out here and play and that's what we'll continue to do. "

Similarly, the 412th MXLS coach, saying he too was proud of his team's play and is hopeful his team can be successful going forward into the end of the season and the playoffs.

"We came out with a positive attitude, hit the ball well, the balls kept falling and defensively, we played hard," Adam Shura, 412th MXLS coach. "We may not be considered one of the top tier teams in this league, but we're a team that can make those top teams say 'wow'," said Adam Shura, 412th MXLS coach."

In the first inning, the 412th MXS was able to score their leadoff batter before the top half of the inning came to an end. In response to that effort, the 412th MXLS was able to score two runs.

With the game seemingly still close, the 412th MXS took the field to bat for the second time. Equally as lucky as their first at bat, they were able to get their leadoff batter around the base before the top of the inning closed.

Now tied, the 412MXLS took the field and control of the game along with it, scoring 5 runs on eight hits.

The 412th MXLS was able to carry that momentum into the next inning, allowing only two hits and no runs and following that with an even stronger showing at bat, they scored 11 runs bringing their lead to 18-2.

In the top of the fourth, the 412th MXS had one last chance to salvage the game and prevent the "mercy rule" from ending the game.

However, it was a moot point as the 412th MXS was only able to get one batter on base in the inning and the 412th MXLS sealed it with a final score of 18-2.

The 412th MXLS coach said he is happy with how far his team came this year and is confident his team will continue to play well for the remainder of the season.

"We're coming together at the right time," he said. "At the beginning of the season a bunch of our players had never played before and now were coming together as a team and we're playing good ball. I guarantee that we're going to play tough every game no matter who we play."
