Full amenities, sliced prices - Edwards golf course scores better than par Published Jan. 12, 2011 By Senior Airman William A. O'Brien 95th Air Base Wing Public Affairs EDWARDS AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. -- Along with a full 18-hole layout, Edwards' Muroc Lake Golf course boasts a driving range, putting green, chipping green, club house and every other amenity found on a standard golf course. What's more, the course is currently running specials that make it cheaper than ever to play the sport, and winter can be an excellent time to play, said Howard Kuroda, Muroc Lake Golf Course general manager. "This golf course is in great condition," Mr. Kuroda said. "The grass is watered with (recovered) tertiary water to reduce the environmental strain. The course is also well designed to both foster young players' skills while still challenging our most advanced players." In an effort to foster interest in golf from a younger crowd, the golf course is running a promotion through January allowing all service members E-4 and below to golf for free. "Our focus is to ensure we give every opportunity to our young Airmen to be introduced to the game of golf," Mr. Kuroda said. "To do that, this month we're holding a promotion that allows all E-4 and below to come out and play for free." In addition to this promotion, the course is also allowing all ladies to take part in a free golf clinic Jan. 15. "We do these promotions for the customer," said Mr. Kuroda. "So to allow the largest number of female patrons to participate in the free clinic, we decided to hold it on a Saturday." However, January isn't the only month the course holds promotions. "We hold several promotions throughout the year," said Mr. Kuroda. "We also offer free golf clinics for any unit on base." The clinics usually last 30 minutes to an hour and allow an office to bond in an unofficial capacity. "Doing a golf clinic as a unit is a great way to enhance organizational effectiveness," he said. "It builds camaraderie amongst the team's members." The course also offers rental equipment, on-sight professionals to give advice and various other services. "We go above and beyond to assist all of our customers with whatever they need, from professional instruction to assistance with equipment or anything else a customer may inquire about," Mr. Kuroda said. "We are here for you," he said. "And we don't lose sight of that in anything we do. Golf is a game of life. It gives you practice in some of life's most crucial skills - dedication, discipline, requires practice and promotes good health. We have retirees that are in their 80s who drive 50-100 miles to use this course." For more information or to schedule a unit clinic, call 275-7888 (275-PUTT).
