High desert predators: We are not your friends

I am starving. I've been roaming around all week looking for food. This cold weather has kept all the rabbits and mice hiding in their warm holes.

I'm so tired. If I don't get something to eat today I'm going to be in trouble. My energy level is plunging.

Looks like I'll have to go to where the humans are. Hopefully, I'll get lucky again and one of them will throw me a bone.

A week ago, some humans put out some dog food for me when they saw me roaming around.

They even gave me a dishful of water. They must have thought I was cute and could be treated like a family pet. Boy, are they wrong. All I want is the food.

I came back later to the same house, but no luck with the same service. I've already become accustomed to free hand-outs from the humans. How dare they only feed me when they feel like it?

I got lucky that time, too. Their next door neighbor had a black cockapoo - easy prey.

Here in the high desert, predators such as coyotes and bobcats are looking for food - nothing more.

These animals have been spotted around housing areas.

Do not feed these animals.

If they are fed, they tend to come back looking for more.

They are known to attack pets and sometimes people if they are desperate.

Keep the housing area safe.

If you see one of these animals, call Security Forces immediately.
