Desert High School wrestling team just finished their season for the year. Eight of the team's wrestlers competed at sectionals and qualified for the California Interscholastic Federation's post season Feb. 16. The event was held at Sierra Pacific High School in Hanford, California. CIF is the organization that oversees high school sports in California and holds championships regionally and state wide.

This season, the Scorpions team won the Central Section CIF Ingraham Trophy Winter Team Academic Award for the highest combined grade point average of all the high schools located in the central section.

High Desert League champions are Justin Cook, Aaron Baker, Brian Johnson, Jared Stanton, LeAaron Santos, Nathan Boles, Matt Valdez and Noah Leon. Monique Martinez and Katherine Martinez competed in the female CIF Sectionals in Tulare, California.

The team celebrated their accomplishments at Desert Wrestling's annual awards banquet Feb. 27.

"The entire Desert High School wrestling family is proud of all the accomplishments of the Desert wrestlers this year," said Mike Cook, Desert High School Booster Club president and volunteer coach. "It is the culmination of a lot of hard work."
