A new video highlights the life journey of Chaplain (Maj.) Alex Lu, whose story of perseverance despite persecution and hardship highlights the importance of resilience for today’s Airmen and their families.

The video chronicles Lu’s path from China and his family’s struggles during the Cultural Revolution to becoming the installation chaplain at Hanscom AFB.

“Growing up, I was influenced by the values of faith, freedom and perseverance, instilled by my grandparents and relatives in the U.S. and Canada,” said Lu.

His religious journey began when he attended an American Bible college in Switzerland and became a Protestant.

Lu’s first ministry was as an associate pastor at a church in eastern Massachusetts before entering military service as a chaplain.

“For me, military service is personal. My family escaped communism to rebuild our lives in a land of freedom,” Lu said. “Serving in uniform is my way of giving back, defending the values that gave us hope, and ensuring that others find strength in their own journey.”
