MAXWELL AFB-GUNTER ANNEX, Ala. -- The Air Force Life Cycle Management Center’s (AFLCMC) Business and Enterprise Systems (BES) Directorate is currently working on implementing the Cyberspace Infrastructure Planning System (CIPS), an Air Force Approved Information System (AIS), to replace an internally developed requirement tracking system.
CIPS is used across the Air Force to provide communication squadrons a collection of tools to aid in proper planning and management of the base infrastructure with functions such as: requirement tracking, Work Order Management System (WOMS), outside plant wiring diagrams, inside plant records, and work plans.
Currently, only the WOMS portion of the CIPS portfolio is expected to see use with the potential to leverage its other functions in the future.
Between Fiscal Year (FY) 2022 and FY23 the Operations, Plans, and Resources (OPR) Branch processed over 100 separate requirements, supporting $16 million in purchases.
Transitioning to CIPS has been something OPR has advocated for several years.
OPR received approval for CIPS on April 25, 2023.
“We are excited to utilize the automation the system brings to the table to streamline the requirement approval process and get IT assets into the hands of the user,” said Ms. Janet Walker Branch Chief, Operations Plans and Resources. “Together, we have worked diligently to gather training and develop the processes required for CIPS usage.”
The next step will be to train users and all approval entities throughout the organization to get them up to speed with the new system.
OPR is also developing a webpage for CIPS on their current SharePoint site to list processes, links, work order templates, trainings, and other helpful material.
Once everyone has access and has been trained, CIPS will go live in first quarter of FY24 and the current Command, Control, Communication and Computer Requirements Document (C4RD) requirements system will sunset. After transitioning to CIPS all requests will need to be submitted via the new system and all active C4RD will be transferred over.
