Renown author Stephen Covey captures the sentiment underlying the AFMC Connect January focus in one simple quote:  Without trust, we don’t truly collaborate; we merely coordinate, or at best, cooperate. It is trust that transforms a group of people into a team.

The AFMC Connect kicks off the new year with a focus on the concept of trust in the workplace. Trust is fundamental to an environment that fosters connectedness and has a positive impact on organizational culture.

Manifested both through actions and words, trust is the character of a person depicted by a belief in their ability, integrity and reliability. High-trust leaders and organizations have more productive teams, with individuals willing to take risks, innovate and collaborate to further the mission.

To grow trust in the workplace, leaders can:

  • -Embrace feedback
  • -Focus on growth and lessons learned
  • -Demonstrate care
  • -Encourage risk-taking and innovation
  • -Be transparent, authentic and reliable
  • -Be self-aware, and encourage continued growth by all
