JOINT BASE SAN ANTONIO-LACKLAND, Texas -- The deadline to submit ideas to help shape the future of combat support is soon approaching.
Submissions for the 2022 Installation and Mission Support Weapons and Tactics Conference are due Sept. 15.
To propose a topic, military and civilian Airmen and Guardians should visit the I-WEPTAC website and click on the topic proposal form at the top right of the page.
The conference addresses current and future challenges in I&MS areas by leveraging the expertise and experience of Airmen and Guardians around the world who identify mission support deficiencies, shortfalls and developmental gaps and provides actionable recommendations.
“We want to establish a near-real time dialogue across the major commands and the Department of the Air Force Combat Support enterprise, to provide potential strategy and resourcing recommendations that better support combatant commands today and tomorrow,” said Col. J.B. Byrnes, chief of AFIMSC’s Strategy and Innovation Division and I-WEPTAC Chair.
This year’s theme is “Adaptive Operations through Expeditionary Combat Support.” The conference takes place April 4-6, 2022, in San Antonio and will feature a hybrid of in-person and virtual attendance to adhere COVID-19 protective measures.
Air Force leaders will select four topics from submissions received and teams, called mission area working groups will form to develop solutions. The more than 100 Airmen and Guardians selected for the MAWGs will bring their unique expertise and ideas with them as they take on these challenges in the months leading up to the conference. They’ll then present their solutions during out-briefs to Air Force senior leaders on April 4.
“It’s then our job at AFIMSC to take their recommendations and implement what’s needed to tackle these challenges and turn them from great ideas into proven capabilities,” Byrnes said.
