WRIGHT-PATTERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Ohio -- The AFMC Connect focus for July is character. This is defined as the particular qualities or characteristics an individual displays that makes them distinct from another.
Airmen who display traits such as integrity, empathy and honesty are able to develop healthier relationships, demonstrate better coping skills, exhibit higher productivity and are more resilient.
When addressing character and the potential impact on the unit, leaders might consider how an Airman might be:
• Demonstrating respect
• Taking responsibility for actions
• Showing concern for others
Leaders are encouraged to employ available daily interaction opportunities, whether in person or virtual, to discuss:
1. What character means to each team member
2. How one Airman’s character might be affected by others
3. How character impacts unit culture
4. How character/lack of character impacts mission accomplishment
Group discussion and introspection might flow into having Airmen reflect on the characteristics that have a positive impact on the unit.
Character serves as the anchor for Resilience, the AFMC Connect quarterly theme.
More information for facilitating discussions can be found in the AFMC Implementation Guide. Additional information on character and local points of contact are available on the AFMC website.
