Hanscom ‘CEOs’ take part in professional development

HANSCOM AIR FORCE BASE, Mass. – Three hundred civilians, enlisted Airmen and officers participated in a virtual professional development event here Jan. 21 through 22.

The Leadercast event titled “Leading Through Disruption” featured guest speakers across business, marketing and sports industries who offered participants unique perspectives into successful leadership skills.

“I attended this seminar in 2015, and it was one of the most impactful development events I had in my career,” said Master Sgt. Justin Bright, facilitator for the event. 

Bright, who serves as the Air Force Life Cycle Management Center’s Detachment 12 first sergeant, collaborated with 66th Air Base Group senior leaders to extend the opportunity throughout the Hanscom workforce.

“A charge I give to our first sergeants is to continually develop themselves and their people,” said Chief Master Sgt. Bill Hebb, installation command chief. “This was a great opportunity to develop Airmen from across the installation, and New England, from all professional backgrounds.”

Throughout the two-day event, the Hanscom First Sergeants Council facilitated the break-out discussions and encouraged active participation.

“This is a great opportunity for our CEOs [civilians, enlisted and officers] to take stock of their skills and to listen,” said Col. Katrina Stephens, installation commander, to participants prior to the event.

One participant described the event as refreshing, and enjoyed the opportunity to hear from professionals in other fields.

“It was an excellent event with so much benefit,” said 2nd Lt. Judith Johnson, 66th Comptroller Squadron Financial Operations Flight commander. “It helped me reevaluate the goals I’ve set for myself and my team.”

Bright said he wanted to bring the Leadercast event to Team Hanscom to set all Airmen up for success.

“I have a passion for professional development,” said Bright. “If one member walks away with a tool that helps their team in a positive way, this was a successful event.”
