The Air Force recently announced the 96th Test Wing earned another Outstanding Unit Award.

The award for exceptional meritorious service from January 2017 through December 2018 marks the second OUA since the 46th Test Wing combined with the 96th Air Base Wing.

“I’m extremely proud of the 96th Test Wing.  Our extraordinary civilian and military Airmen achieve the nearly-impossible every day across our test and installation support mission areas.  There’s no question this recognition was richly deserved,” said Brig. Gen. Scott Cain, 96th Test Wing commander.

The citation that accompanied the award included numerous accomplishments by the wing while the nomination write-up cited more than 40 proud achievements.  Among those triumphs were:

  • Updating the Air Force F-15 fleet’s Eagle Passive Active Warning Survivability System, a more than $5 billion program modernizing a 40-year-old electronic warfare system.
  • A $74 million command, control, computer, communication, intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance test portfolio that produced 2,000 test events, advancing the United States Central Command’s intelligence imagery toolsets and resolved seven operational requirements.
  • Executing a $6 million project, erecting an 18,000-square-foot facility launching the Air Force’s first traumatic brain injury and mental health center of excellence.
  • Epitomized excellence in response to the Category 5 hurricane, Michael, which devastated Tyndall Air Force Base, by rapidly establishing mobile command and control and reopened normal flight operations across the Gulf Coast in under 12 days.

“Our people and the services we provide the warfighter are of the highest caliber,” said Cain.  “We are critical to our nation's defense, and it means a great deal to see this team recognized.”

The wing earned it previous OUA from January 2014 through December 2015.
