HANSCOM AIR FORCE BASE, Mass. – The Hanscom Child Development Center and School Age programs are opening under restricted guidelines during Phase 2A of a phased return to full capacity.
Beginning June 22, limited care will be provided for currently-enrolled families who have been identified and verified through the installation crisis action team and signed off by the member’s chain of command.
“At this time, we’re only able to support families where all members of the household are being required to return to work and where we’ve received validation letters signed by all members’ supervisors,” said Kristen Melvin, 66th Force Support Squadron CDC director.
According to FSS officials, the Youth Center will remain closed at this time. Virtual programming via the Youth Programs social media outlets will continue during Phase2A. The Youth Program Summer Camp, Camp Adventure, has been cancelled for the summer of 2020.
Officials will contact families directly when their return will take place, and they will be provided detailed information on the new policies, according to Melvin.
The CDC is also implementing staggered drop off and pick up times, scheduled in advance, and families must designate one parent or guardian for both interactions.
“We’re working to limit the number of people who come into contact with the program,” said Melvin.
Colleen Davis, 66 FSS School Age Program and Youth Center director, said the School Age Program is accommodating curbside drop off and pick up during predetermined hours, but parents will not be able to enter the facility. Both programs will conduct health assessments of children prior to entry.
Melvin said parents should not drop off children at either program unless they have been contacted by officials confirming a start date. Members who arrive without confirmation will be denied care.
Families seeking care who are not currently enrolled in the CDC or School Age Program must request care via the waiting list at www.MilitaryChildCare.com
Melvin said that the health and safety of the community has been a top priority through the planning process, and will continue to be through Phase 2A.
“We’ve always had very stringent health and safety standards,” said Melvin. ”We’ve recently increased the frequency of facility cleanings and added additional sanitation stations and cleaning supplies in all common areas.”
Melvin and Davis said they will be working directly with families who have been confirmed for care throughout Phase 2A and beyond. Priority placement and validation requirements can also be found at www.MilitaryChildCare.com.
