Security Forces captain earns 2005 Lance P. Sijan award Published Dec. 30, 2005 By Mike Wallace 88th Air Base Wing Public Affairs WRIGHT-PATTERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Ohio (AFMCNS) -- A captain from the 88th Security Forces has earned the 2005 Lance P. Sijan U.S. Air Force Leadership Award in the junior officer category. Capt. William M. Dains, a training and resources officer for the 88th SFS was nominated for the award for his work as officer-in-charge of convoy operations at Camp Bucca in southeast Iraq from January to July 2005. Captain Dains’ citation said that he “managed and conducted supply, logistical, maintenance, and detainee movements across the area of operation. Additionally, he built and organized a combat convoy section from scratch.” He further executed 1,200 missions and transported 20,000 passengers, including 13,000 passengers who he took over 60,000 miles of dangerous Iraqi roadways. “Camp Bucca is near Umm Qasr, the only port city in Iraq,” Captain Dains said. “I was in charge of transportation of detainees, supply runs and shuttle service. I served in the 586th Expeditionary Security Forces Squadron under the 18th Military Police Brigade.” An Ohio native and graduate of the Air Force Academy, Captain Dains entered in the Air Force in May 2000 and has served here for two-and-a-half years.
