Army-Air Force interactions are alive and well, at least for a team of runners who participated in a marathon March 25 at the U.S. Army's White Sands Missile Range.

Runners from the Air Force Research Laboratory at Kirtland Air Force Base, N.M., made the four-hour drive to the Army range to participate in the Bataan Memorial Death March, a 26.2-mile run that honors allied soldiers who experienced a death march in the Philippines during World War II.

According to the posted race results, the Hpmettes, a group from the High Power Microwave Division of the laboratory's Directed Energy Directorate came in 4th place in the co-ed military team category. Headed by Col. Rebecca Seeger, the team included Maj. Chuck Ormsby, Capt. Shaune Sanders, 1st. Lt. Jeff Heggemeier, and 1st. Lt. Justin Henry. Their times averaged around 6:48.

There were other laboratory runners who competed as well: Lt. Col. Kirk Kloeppel from the Laser Division, 1st. Lt. Erik Stockham from the Technology Applications Division, and 2nd. Lt. Chad St Arnauld from the Optics Division. Other Air Force runners included Capt. Mike Warner from the laboratory's Space Vehicles Directorate and two former Directed Energy Directorate officers: Capt. Drew Goettler and 1st. Lt. Ethan Holt.
