Grammy-nominated singer/songwriter Red Grammer has been entertaining audiences of all ages for more than 20 years. He performed for more than 400 spectators April 4 at the Wright-Patterson Base Theater.

"I think the show went off great, and I had a wonderful time with kids," said Mr. Grammer. "I would absolutely come back again and again for great folks like this."

Mr. Grammer said he started making up songs in 1983 at the urging of his wife, Kathy. They were making up songs for their two boys, and she suggested they make a cassette. She has co-written many of his songs through the years.

Mr. Grammer performs between 150-175 shows a year. He incorporates songs about getting along, positive thinking and talking things out instead of resorting to violent ways. He has appeared on The Today Show, CBS This Morning and had a concert special on the Disney channel. An album he recorded was nominated for a Grammy Award in 2005.

Laurie Judy, a Family Child Care coordinator, was responsible for organizing the event and said she was pleased with every aspect.

"It was great that he had the whole audience involved and (seeing) how enthusiastic everybody was," she said. "(Red) is a real (sic) down-to-earth person."

Members of the Family Member Program and Family Child Care were instrumental in the success of the show, according to organizers.

At the conclusion of his show, Mr. Grammer signed autographs for the children (and some parents), sang with the kids, and took pictures with his youngest fans.

"It is great fun working with the younger children," he said. "It is entertaining to watch them follow along with the motions and seeing how playful they are. I love their bright eyes."
