Air Force active-duty, Air Force Reserve and Air National Guard members have a chance to test their marksmanship skills at an upcoming rifle match here.

The base will host the rifle match Feb. 26 through March 1 at the firing range complex in Area A. The competition can accommodate as many as 252 shooters who will compete for 25 Excellence-in-Competition medals.

The event is an official military function. Eligible competitors may seek permissive temporary duty to come here. Recipients of the Excellence-in-Competition medal may wear it on their Air Force service dress uniform. For more information, call Tech. Sgt. Kurt M. Rice, 88th Security Forces Squadron firing range noncommissioned officer-in-charge, at DSN 787-2309/7388 or (937) 257-2309 /7388.

The competition will include a one-and-a-half hour classroom session and two hours on the range. Competitors will use M-16A2 rifles and fire during timed rounds from unsupported standing, kneeling, sitting and prone positions. The targets will be reduced silhouettes at a range of 25 meters, and the competition will include several heats with the results available after the final one.

Host nation students assigned to the Air Force Institute of Technology or the Air Force Research Laboratory may participate but are not eligible for a medal.
