In an effort to save money and improve security, the Air Force will stop mailing hard copies of Leave and Earning Statements, or LESs, to civilian employees beginning in October.

After Sept. 29, access to LESs for Air Force Materiel Command's 56,700 civilians will be restricted to the "myPay" Web site. All civilian employees will need to register at the Web site.

"The Air Force expects to save millions of dollars as a result," according to Roger Richards, the customer service representative in Headquarters Air Force Materiel Command's Financial Management Directorate. "Electronic access also provides a more secure method of viewing LESs."

The Defense Finance and Accounting Service had already restricted active-duty and non-bargaining unit personnel to electronic copies of the LESs as well as W-2 tax statements for several years. Now, after successfully negotiating with employee labor unions, bargaining unit personnel are included.
