Personnel Center seeks to improve civilian recruitment Published Sept. 21, 2007 By Rufus Thomas Air Force Materiel Command Public Affairs WRIGHT-PATTERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Ohio -- The Air Force Personnel Center at Randolph AFB, Texas, has instituted changes to improve its employee recruitment program. John Steenbock, AFPC deputy director, briefed the changes at the Annual Joint National Labor-Management Meeting held here Sept. 12 in Air Force Materiel Command headquarters. The meeting was attended by command and union leaders from throughout AFMC. Some of the changes Mr. Steenbock described are the elimination of the Air Force-unique Civilian Personnel Decision Support System, or CPDSS, the Civilian Announcement Notification System, or CANS, Resume Writer software and civilian career briefs. These features will be replaced with more streamlined processes, which will resemble those at the Office of Personnel Management's website "USAJOBS," Mr. Steenbock said. The benefits of the new features include "higher quality candidates, timely referral certificates and job offers, and equitable consideration for internal and external candidates." Current employees will not see any changes until bargaining obligations are completed with each of the local unions. "Don't expect to see changes for internal employees until early 2008," Mr. Steenbock said.
