Air Force Safety Center creating awareness with family campaign Published Nov. 20, 2009 Air Force Safety Center KIRTLAND AIR FORCE BASE, New Mexico -- The Air Force Safety Center has released the first public service announcement highlighting volunteer family members active in saving lives and preventing mishaps. As part of the safety center's campaign during the Year of the Air Force Family, the center is using the family to influence behavior. According to Maj. Gen. Fred Roggero, Air Force chief of safety, "the family is a key influencer in behavior and support to keep everyone safe. We've got to let them know we need them working with us to help stop reckless off-duty behavior." Since the Air Force loses ten times as many Airmen each year off-duty than on-duty, Air Force Safety is using the family to influence behavior. "We keep our Airmen safe through rules, regulations, policies and procedures," said Gen. Roggero. "We aim to carry this mind-set forward to keep families safe," he added. The first video features the family of Staff Sgt. David De Herrera assigned to the New Mexico Air National Guard 's 150th Fighter Wing, Kirtland AFB, N.M. In the video, the importance of family members helping the Air Force keep Airman safe when they're off-duty is emphasized. The video is available for viewing on the Air Force Safety Center Web site at http://www.afsc.af.mil.
