Freedom's Call Tattoo 2010 offers budget-friendly fun for whole family

WRIGHT-PATTERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Ohio --  With summertime around the corner and vacation planning on the horizon, this year's Air Force Materiel Command Freedom's Call Tattoo will provide free fun for everyone in the family.

Mark your calendars now for this sixth annual event starting at 4 p.m. June 25 on the grounds of the National Museum of the United States Air Force. Tattoo is free and open to the public.

A variety of entertainment will be available, including flyovers, stage events, music, fireworks and the technology tent. This year's technology tent will be air-conditioned and will give attendees a glimpse at the base's mission.

In addition to varied entertainment options, attendees will also get a little taste of history. Tattoo 2010's theme of 'Reflections on 60 Years' will commemorate veterans from the Korean War.

"We plan to honor some of our Korean War veterans in attendance this year," said Dave Egner, Freedom's Call Tattoo director. "This is a great opportunity for everyone to experience the rich history of our nation and Air Force, while also recognizing the contributions of our military veterans."

Part of the tribute will include music from the era, performed by the U.S. Air Force Band of Flight, U.S. Air Force Band of Liberty and the Air National Guard Band of the Great Lakes.

Other musical guests include .38 Special, known for integrating arena and southern rock into its music, and the Ohio-based band, This Side Up. This Side Up offers a unique blend of songs from different genres that will appeal to all ages.

"That's not all -- we can't forget the flyover of vintage aircraft and the bigger and better family fun zone," Mr. Egner said. "And of course, one of Southwest Ohio's largest fireworks shows that will light up the sky."

Officials are expecting close to 75,000 people to attend this year's event.
