AFMC receives Silver Delegation authority for contracted services

  • Published
In November 2010, Air Force Materiel Command received authority to award services contracts up to $500 million. Brig. Gen. Wendy Masiello, Air Force Program Executive Officer for combat and mission support, upgraded the award from its probationary status received in August 2008.

This is all part of General Masiello's tiered delegation approach, where major commands can earn services acquisition authority. The tiers include basic, silver, gold, and platinum, each allowing increased authority.

Of the Air Force service contracts that exceed $100 million, AFMC manages and executes 79 percent of them by employing a disciplined, multi-functional team approach. In total, the team manages more than $100 billion in critical, complex services acquisition programs by working directly with the field program offices, assisting in acquisition planning, source selection, and review and oversight.

"Our priorities are to design and implement acquisition processes that embrace our strategic values, and keep pace with the ever-changing business and market environment," said Dr. Steve Butler, AFMC executive director. "We are dedicated to managing our processes to ensure they incorporate the discipline, rigor, and cost efficiencies necessary to sustain the warfighter now and into the future."

Receiving Silver Delegation positions AFMC to streamline services acquisition channels by reducing management levels. This delegation of authority poises AFMC to monitor performance regularly and position itself for the next level - gold.
