Energy awareness is emphasized each year during the month of October, and this year is no different. Civil Engineering, in conjunction with Operational Contracting, is gearing up for Industry Days Oct. 12 and 13.

From 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day at the Hanscom Conference Center, utility providers, energy firms, municipalities, educational entities, government agencies, energy and facility manager, design engineers and contracting entities have been invited to present or take part in the special event.

"The purpose of these two days is to foster better communication and understanding of applications of different technologies and tools that exist regarding energy," said Karl Berg, base energy manager. "The overall goal is to promote energy awareness."

Presentations will focus on three main topics, from renewable energy to energy conservation and energy security. It will cover areas such as geothermal, solar and wind energy to lighting technologies and lighting controls.

"We hope that industry partners will provide some insight into paradigms of energy conservation," said Mr. Berg.

Senior leaders from both the Air Force and Air Force Materiel Command have emphasized the goals of reducing energy consumption across the service and throughout the command, and October is an ideal time to remind personnel about ways to conserve energy and help the environment.

Anyone with an interest in topics being presented is encouraged to attend the industry days.
