Andrew Hunter was sworn in as the assistant secretary of the Air Force for acquisition, technology and logistics during a Pentagon ceremony this morning, following his confirmation to the role by the U.S. Senate Feb. 3.

Hunter, a former senior executive in the Department of Defense, was most recently a senior fellow at the Center for Strategic and International Studies focused on emerging technologies, defense trade, the defense acquisition system and industrial policy.

Now the Air Force’s senior acquisition official, Hunter has also been tapped to serve as the acting undersecretary of defense for acquisition and sustainment for the Office of the Secretary of Defense

“Congratulations to Andrew Hunter on his recent Senate confirmation and selection to serve as the acting undersecretary of defense for acquisition and sustainment,” said Secretary of the Air Force Frank Kendall. “With his extensive background in defense matters, Andrew is ideally prepared for both the responsibilities of the office and to deliver meaningful military capabilities into the hands of our service members.”

In his capacity as the Air Force’s acquisition lead, Hunter will oversee Air Force research, development and acquisition activities totaling an annual budget in excess of $54 billion for more than 550 acquisition programs.
