The National Air and Space Intelligence Center Inspector General’s Office recently was named the winner of the 2018 Junius W. Jones Inspector General’s Award Category III.

This Air Force-level award recognizes an outstanding Commander’s Inspection Program that goes above and beyond the day-to-day mission requirements. NASIC’s CCIP was chosen as the best of any direct reporting unit or field operating agency.

“Our IG team is on a roll. First, they scored “highly effective” on our UEI, and now this Air Force-level award. We’re so proud of this recognition for all their hard work,” said Col. Parker Wright, NASIC commander.

Throughout 2018, the NASIC IG team drove 23 exercises and inspections; identified 186 deficiencies, 101 recommended improvement areas and 43 strengths; and supported the center’s $470 million intelligence mission.

“This is huge for us because it validates all the hard work the office has accomplished for the commander’s inspection program,” said Lt. Col David Van Pelt, NASIC inspector general. “We are making sure we are conducting inspections, supporting exercises and pointing out risks and deficiencies to the wing and group commanders.”

The IG team also led the wing to an overall highly effective capstone grade, something only 3.8% of the Air Force received.

Looking forward, the IG office strives to build upon the success of the Commander’s Inspection Program.

“Our team is constantly looking to improve process to better the mission. We are always available to help commanders, unit self-assessment program managers and anyone else with questions or complaints,” Van Pelt added.
