About the Role:

The Air Force Test Center is looking for a Full-Time, Social Worker or Psychologist; NH-0180/1085-03 to work at the 412 TW, Wing Staff Agencies, Integrated Resilience Office (412 TW/CDV) at Edwards Air Force Base.

In this position, you will provide a full range of professional social work services within operational Air Force (AF) squadrons. Serves as a member of a multidisciplinary Integrated Operational Support (IOS) team directly supporting the Line of the Air Force (LAF) mission. Assists assigned organization with the goal of building resiliency, enhancing human performance and improving unit mission effectiveness. Clinical and administrative duties focus on education and prevention, psychosocial assessment and diagnosis, and evidenced-based interventions and treatment.

Typical 2026 salary range $104,349-$161,313 per year (includes Locality)

Desired Skills:

- 2 years of experience with the military culture and stressors related to an operational environment.

- 2 years of experience in psychological consultation, education and prevention training, and evidenced-based intervention and treatments, preferably in a military or first responder environment.

-2 years of experience as an Independent Licensed Clinical Social Worker or Licensed Professional Counselor embedded in a military or first responder environment.

Major Duties:

 -Serves as the principal liaison between the unit, the host MTF's quality management office, and higher headquarters inspection teams to ensure program alignment and seamless execution of accreditation

-Serves as the primary mental health advisor to unit leadership. Provides expert consultation to commanders and senior leaders on psychological health issues, team dynamics, and evidence-based strategies to mitigate stressors and optimize unit performance, readiness, and mission effectiveness.

-Develops, implements, and leads strategic, evidence-based initiatives to address psychosocial risks and enhance resilience. Utilizes data from direct observation, interviews, and objective sources to create targeted programs that support the psychological health of Service Members.

-Conducts comprehensive psycho-diagnostic assessments and intake evaluations at both the embedded unit clinic and the Medical Treatment Facility (MTF). Formulates clinical diagnoses consistent with the current DSM, assessing family, biopsychosocial, and developmental histories to inform treatment.

-Provides a full range of evidence-based psychotherapy for individuals and groups, including crisis intervention and other recognized treatment modalities. Formulates, establishes, and documents treatment plans in electronic health records, ensuring continuity of care and appropriate referrals when necessary.

-Actively integrates into the full spectrum of unit activities, including observing members in various worksites and shifts, to identify psychosocial stressors and barriers to optimal human performance. Establishes rapport with Service Members to provide on-site, prevention-focused support.

-Ensures continuous compliance with Accreditation Organization standards, Defense Health Agency (DHA) policies, and OSHA guidelines. Sustains a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with the MTF for clinical oversight and support.

-Establishes and maintains robust partnerships with the host MTF and other installation helping agencies, including the Community Action Team (CAT), Military & Family Readiness Center, and Chapel. Serves as a subject matter expert in multi-agency forums to ensure an integrated approach to care and prevention.

-Performs emergent risk assessments to determine the level of harm posed to self or others. Takes immediate and appropriate action to ensure patient safety, including coordinating with unit leadership and the MTF to facilitate referral to a higher level of care as required.

-Develops and delivers high-level briefings, psycho-educational classes, and training programs to unit personnel, leaders, and medical staff. Topics focus on raising awareness of psychosocial stressors, mitigating risk, and optimizing individual and team performance.

-Collects, analyzes, and interprets both qualitative and quantitative data from workplace assessments, climate surveys, and other sources to develop data-driven mitigation strategies. Documents and shares non-medical analysis with command teams to inform evidence-based decisions for improving the work environment.

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Upon completion of your probationary/trial period, your employment will be terminated unless you receive certification, in writing, that your continued employment advances the public interest
  • Obtain & maintain Secret Security clearance.
  • This is a designated Drug Testing Position
  • Credentialing (SOCIAL WORKER):  As a condition of employment as a government civilian a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, the applicant must meet Military Treatment Facility credentialing and privileging competency requirements.
  • Required to meet all applicable credentialing and privileging requirements and be fully qualified to perform within the full scope of their clinical field as an independent and unsupervised licensed practitioner at the host installation MTF.
  • Education (SOCIAL WORKER):  Completed a Master of Social Work degree from a school accredited by the Council on Social Work Education.
  • Must have completed a master’s-level practicum or two years post-Master of Social Work degree experience that qualified for taking the independent licensure exam.
  • LCSW Licensure (SOCIAL WORKER):  Must possess and maintain a current, active, full, and unrestricted license to practice as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker independently, which includes diagnosis and treatment, in any one of the 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. Or,
  • Education (PSYCHOLOGIST):  Master’s Degree or higher in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from a program accredited by the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP).
  • Must have passed the National Clinical Mental Health Counselor Examination (NCMHCE) or provide evidence of an examination determined by the Director of the DHA as equal in scope, intent, and content to the NCMHCE. To verify if an exam outside the NCMHCE meets DHA requirements, a request for review will be routed through the AFMED Clinical Quality Management office.
  • LPC Licensure (PSYCHOLOGIST):  Must possess and maintain a current, active, full, and unrestricted license to practice as a Licensed Professional Counselor independently, which includes diagnosis and treatment, in any one of the 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
  • Must have actively practiced as a licensed independent practitioner within the past two years.
  • Must maintain active, full, independent clinical privileges through completion of all required yearly clinical competencies to the full scope of their clinical field and at an independent and unsupervised level for the duration of employment as an affiliate provider at the host installation MTF to the full scope of their clinical field.
  • Certification (BOTH):  Must possess and maintain Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
  • Must complete Military Employee Health Program screening and immunization requirements IAW DoD and AF 44-108 directive through the military treatment facility’s Public Health department prior to any engagement in patient interactions.
  • Professional knowledge of clinical counseling practices, principles, theories, and administrative requirements to be able to apply them in a clinical or occupational setting and medical documentation.
  • Knowledge of diagnostic issues related to psychiatric disorders IAW the most current version of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM) of the American Psychiatric Association.
  • Knowledge of military organizations and culture and the unique stressors upon workers in an operational military workplace.
  • Knowledge of and proficiency in (at minimum 1 preferably 2) evidenced-based treatment modalities used for the treatment of trauma-related disorders such as Cognitive Processing Therapy, Prolonged Exposure Therapy, and Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing.
