About the Role:

The Air Force Test Center is looking for a Full-Time Utility Engineering Technician NJ-0802-03 to work at the 412th Test Wing, 412th Civil Engineer Group, 412th Civil Engineer Squadron (412 CES/CEOIC) at Edwards Air Force Base.

Maintain an environment of innovation and process improvement across the installation as applied to Industrial Controls.  Established and maintains facilities and infrastructure that are cyber-secure, accessible, functionally reliable, aesthetically suitable, appropriate for mission, and meet energy goals required through executive orders; compliant in both substance and process with all applicable codes, standards, and regulations.  Utilize innovation concepts to address routine and complex issues and collaborate to capitalize on opportunities.

Typical 2026 salary range: $71,957 -    $113,185 per year (includes Locality)

Desired Skills:

- The ideal candidate for this IT focused position, within Civil Engineering will possess a strong foundation in information technology and security practices, including a current Security+(Plus) certification.

- Strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills are essential for success in this role.

- Be able to implement and manage cyber-security measures to protect organizational assets.

Major Duties:

-Develops, integrates, and implements innovative solutions to diverse, complex problems across multiple areas of disciplines related to Industrial Controls.

-Installs, overhauls, repairs, fabricates, and/or modifies electric and electronically controlled industrial systems,components, and/or sub assemblies.

-Constructs interface devices and modifications to equipment in order to refine new systems operations. Typical projects involve installation of EMCS or SCADA systems for base wide monitoring and control of all high voltage power generation, distribution equipment, Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning systems. Performs in-depth, comprehensive analyses and maintenance to ensure maximum system performance, security and reliability to meet energy conservation measures.

-Installs and commissions major electronic control systems that are new or major modifications of existing systems. Installs, troubleshoots, modifies and repairs computer hardware/software, transmitting/receiving devices and hardwire (e.g.,phone, cable, fiber optics) and/or wireless communication devices. Ensures seamless integration and communications between control center, facilities and systems utilizing current control/monitoring applications, networking, cybersecurity, communications protocols, radio, fiber optics and twisted pair technologies.

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • U.S. Citizenship
  • Depending on the type of position (competitive/excepted) you are selected for, you will be required to serve a 1-year probationary period OR 2-year trial period
  • Upon completion of your probationary/trial period, your employment will be terminated unless you receive certification, in writing, that your continued employment advances the public interest
  • Obtain & maintain Security clearance
  • This is a designated Drug Testing Position
  • General and practical knowledge of automation concepts, methods, principles, practices, and techniques; familiarity with automation disciplines (mechanical, electrical, structural, utilities, etc).
  • Ability to utilize basic electrical hand tools(wrenches, pliers, crimps, wire strippers, Fluke meters, ect.). Install and trouble shoot low voltage control circuits without supervision.
  • Ability to research, analyze, interpret, and apply rules, regulations, and procedures in a variety of situations and recommend timely and economical solutions.
  • Maintain exceptional cyber-security. Remain vigilant, identify and remove threats to system hardware, software, and electronic data to prevent information disclosure, theft, or damage.
