About the Role:

The Air Force Test Center is looking for a Full-Time Architect (NH-0808-03) to work at the 412th Test Wing, 412th Civil Engineer Group, Engineering Division (412 CEG/CENMP) at Edwards Air Force Base.

Provide architectural expertise to cradle-to-crave programming, design, and construction management of multi-system projects at the Air Force Test Center (AFTC).

Typical 2026 salary range: $104,349 - $161,313 Per Year (includes Locality)

Desired Skills:

-Proven ability to develop conceptual layouts and high-fidelity renderings, serving as a primary initial technical design and visualization tool to facilitate stakeholder validation and executive decision-making.

-Comprehensive knowledge of building codes and regulations, specifically the International Building Code (IBC), National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) standards, and Unified Facilities Criteria (UFC) to ensure project legality and safety.

-Demonstrated proficiency in Computer-Aided Design (CAD) and Building Information Modeling (BIM) software (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit) to produce professional construction drawings, detailed floor plans, and integrated site models.

-Knowledge of Landscape Architecture principles, including sustainable site planning, native vegetation selection, and Low Impact Development (LID). Ability to integrate landscaping with Antiterrorism/Force Protection (AT/FP) standards to enhance security through environmental design.

Major Duties:

- Serves as the managing or consulting architect on major construction or improvement projects. Performs planning, design and construction management work for substantial multi-phase new construction, renovation, and improvement projects for a variety of structural and surface systems. Projects are usually large and/or highly complex requiring phased scheduling (typical construction would take about four years) or include work of an unconventional/advanced nature requiring more in-depth research and study prior to actual construction (typical construction would take about two years). The architect typically encounters and resolves difficult and unforeseen architectural and engineering problems and resolves programming conflicts on various aspects of programs or projects. As a senior architect, leads a design team and orchestrates the planning, surveys, design, cost estimating, and phased scheduling of the project.

- Coordinates with internal Directorate functions including other engineers and architects, System Engineers, Resources, etc., and outside agencies such as the Army Corps of Engineers, AFTC, Environmental Management Division, contractors, etc., as appropriate for the project or program. Provides guidance to team members, monitors their progress throughout the project, and provides input to higher levels on performance.

- Coordinates the preparation of and reviews architect and engineer (A&E) statements of work (SOW). Provides criteria and standards for specialized, difficult, or unusual requirements. Reviews preliminary and final engineering plans, specifications, and cost estimates of A&E firms or other design agencies to ensure design excellence and compliance with specifications. Serves on the A&E selection board and acts as the technical representative to the contracting officer in negotiation and administration of design contracts.

- Keeps abreast of emerging technologies to ensure programmed development will not prematurely become obsolete. Uses computers/computer software such as information management programs, computer aided design and drafting (CADD) programs, and project tracking programs to solve engineering problems and facilitate work. Keeps current on relevant software applications.

 Qualifications/Requirements:

  • U.S. Citizenship
  • Depending on the type of position (competitive/excepted) you are selected for, you will be required to serve a 1-year probationary period OR 2-year trial period
  • Upon completion of your probationary/trial period, your employment will be terminated unless you receive certification, in writing, that your continued employment advances the public interest
  • Obtain & maintain Security clearance
  • ABET Accredited Degree: Architecture; or related field that included 60 semester hours of course work in architecture or related disciplines of which at least (1) 30 semester hours were in architectural design, and (2) 6 semester hours were in each of the following: structural technology, properties of materials and methods of construction, and environmental control systems.
