About the Role:

The Air Force Test Center is looking for a Full-Time Family Advocacy Treatment Manager (Interdisciplinary Series, NH-0185/0101-03) to work at the 412th Test Wing, 412th Medical Group, 412th Operational Medical Readiness Squadron, (412 OMRS/SGXW) at Edwards AFB, in Edwards, California.

 

To provide professional clinical social work or marriage and family therapy services in support of the Family Advocacy Program (FAP).  The Family Advocacy Treatment Manager (FATM), designs, develops, maintains, implements, and evaluates clinical services for installation FAP.  Serves as an installation clinical subject matter expert (SME) providing consultation to installation leadership and medical professionals regarding needs assessment, determining clinical intervention requirements, and developing implementation strategies.  Performs case management, risk and clinical assessments, and crisis intervention to prevent and treat child maltreatment and spouse/intimate partner abuse serving beneficiaries scattered over a large geographic area.

Typical 2026 salary range: $104,349 - $161,313 Per Year (includes Locality)

Travel Requirements: 15 days per year

Desired Skills:

- Knowledge of dynamics and diagnostic skills necessary for family violence identification, risk assessment, and safety planning.

- Must have experience as a group therapy facilitator or co-leader.

- Experience in coordinating services for families and monitoring client participation and progress utilizing the modalities of social casework, psychotherapy, and psycho-educational interventions.

- Ability to effectively interview and clinically respond to the needs of clients including assessing suicide, homicide, and substance abuse.

- Knowledge of the specific demands of the military lifestyle, such as frequent separations, and high stress working environments that have an extensive impact on individuals and their families preferred.

- Ability to communicate in writing to develop and prepare case management documentation, safety plans, psycho-social assessments, treatment plans, correspondence, and reports.

 

Major Duties:

- Serve as the clinical subject matter expert (SME), providing consultation to leadership and medical professionals on clinical needs, intervention strategies, and risk management.

- Establish and oversee triage, safety planning, and treatment goals for all FAP clients.

- Provide comprehensive case management, from initial referral through case closure, for individuals and families experiencing a wide range of psychosocial and behavioral issues.

- Independently conduct psychosocial diagnoses and assessments, utilizing a variety of professional instruments.

- Develop and implement Family Service Plans (FSPs) for the New Parent Support Program (NPSP), including home-based interventions.

- Use a variety of professional instruments and techniques to assess the individual or family and assess the level of risk and potential for lethality.

- Deliver individual, family, group, and marital counseling and psychotherapy for complex issues.

- Coordinate with appropriate agencies when significant hazard of severe or continuing abuse is identified, recommending action to effect removal and protection of family members and others from the abuser.

- Testify as an expert witness in areas of psychosocial dysfunction in which incumbent has competence IAW military and civil law.

- Facilitate community-wide response to family maltreatment by independently providing diagnostic and prognostic impressions based on psychosocial assessment to other health care providers, commanders, first sergeants, local child protective services, law enforcement, and judicial personnel, when appropriate.   

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • This is an interdisciplinary position and may be filled and classified to the series represented by the candidate that meets the qualifications of one of the listed series listed on the cover page.
  • Social Worker: At a minimum, qualification requirements stipulated by the US Office of Personnel Management (OPM) for the 0185 occupational series must be met. Selective Placement Factors: Possess a current, unrestricted license to practice clinical social work independently in any one of the 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, or the U.S Virgin Islands.
  • Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist: At a minimum, qualification requirements stipulated by the US Office of Personnel Management (OPM) for the 0101 occupational series must be met. Selective Placement Factors: Possess a current, unrestricted license to practice marriage and family therapy independently in any one of the 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, or the U.S Virgin Islands.
  • This position has been identified as having "regular contact with children". IAW Public Law 101-647 Section 231, and Public Law 102-190, Section 1094. A FBI fingerprint and State Criminal History Repository (SCHR) Check will be completed on any person selected for this position. 
  • Must have the following minimum qualifications IAW DOD directives:
  • In order to meet Military Treatment Facility (MTF) credentialing and privileging competency requirements, must have two years of experience working in the field of child abuse and domestic abuse as an independent Licensed Clinical Social Worker or a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist.  Must maintain independent active clinical privileges for the duration of employment.
  • Government civilian providers must meet all applicable credentialing requirements IAW MTF guidelines and be fully qualified to perform within the scope of their practice.  
  • Must possess and maintain Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.     
  • In order to meet MTF credentialing and privileging currency requirements, must have actively practiced as an independent Licensed Clinical Social Worker or a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist within the past two years.      
  • Work may occasionally require travel away from the normal duty station on military or commercial aircraft.
  • As a condition of employment, the employee shall meet all Medical Treatment Facility (MTF) Employee Occupational Health and Safety standards prior to start of work at the MTF. As a condition of employment, the employee shall meet all Medical Treatment Facility (MTF) Employee Occupational Health and Safety standards prior to start and throughout working at the MTF. Initial and periodic tests/immunizations required for all employees include Tuberculin Skin Test (TST/PPD), Varicella (chicken pox), measles, mumps, rubella (MMR), Hepatitis B, Seasonal Influenza, tetanus, diphtheria and pertussis (Tdap).In addition to these requirements, each employee will stay up to date on their vaccinations throughout their employment with the Medical Facility in accordance with AFI44-108, Infection Prevention and Control Program and the CDC guidelines (Immunization of Health-Care Personnel, Recommendations of the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices, 2011).
  • This is a designated Drug Testing Position
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office and Adobe products.

  • 1.  Professional knowledge of a variety of social services, social work or marriage and family therapy practices, principles, and theories, including but not limited to clinical case work, community outreach programs, family and children protection services, and family violence prevention theory and practice, dynamics, and indicators.
  • 2. Skill in conducting interviews to establish the nature and extent of their concerns and/or issues; providing professional assistance to clients; and determining appropriate referral services and/or options.
  • 3. Ability to apply professional diagnostic skills to individuals and families, and to plan and organize, establish treatment plans, set priorities, and meet suspense’s.
