Aircraft Maintenance Manager (NH-0301-03) Published April 24, 2026 About the Role: The Air Force Test Center is looking for a Full-Time Aircraft Maintenance Manager (NH-0301-03) to work at the 412th Test Wing, 412th Maintenance Group, 412th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron, Shadow/T-38 (412 AMXS/MXAC) at Edwards Air Force Base. In this position you will serve as the senior manager and planning specialist providing leadership, continuity and decision making capacity for an Aircraft Maintenance Unit (AMU). Formulates and implements plans/programs in support of the AFTC mission. As supervisor, exercises/recommends personnel management actions such as hiring, firing, directing, assigning, promoting, rewarding, and disciplining. Leads the technical, logistics support, and the business coordination team's efforts in support of all AFTC test and test support missions. The AFTC test and test support aircraft may be of several different mission design series (MDS), many with highly-modified or unique configurations, used to support flight test activities and the USAF Test Pilot School. Major Duties: - Plans and develops goals and objectives that integrate organization and AMU objectives. Establishes, revises, or reviews policies, procedures, mission objectives, and organization design for the staff, as necessary to eliminate work problems or barriers to mission accomplishment, promote team building, implement quality improvements, or in response to concerns with regulatory compliance and/or customer requirements. - Plans work for accomplishment by subordinate units, sets and adjusts priorities, and prepares schedules based on consideration of difficulty of requirements and assignments such that the experience, training, and abilities of the staff are effectively utilized to meet organization and customer needs. Responsible for ensuring that assigned aircraft are maintained in accordance with all applicable regulations and instructions, and that fleet aircraft are properly configured and available to meet the customer's needs at the scheduled times. Works with other Squadrons, 412th Maintenance Group, 412th Test Wing, and AFTC organizations to ensure that assigned manpower is properly acquired, trained and assigned and that all associated costs are managed efficiently and reported effectively. - Directs the work, planning and analysis, and management of support aircraft activities. Directs major requirements for support aircraft involving significant resources. Performs a wide range of technical input and oversight tasks. Directs subordinate supervisors regarding work assignments, work-flow, and production plans. Reviews reports and records to determine adequacy of mission accomplishment and to identify areas for increasing efficiency and reducing costs. - Participates in conferences and coordinates with other DoD, AFMC, AFTC, and Maintenance leadership, supervisors, project engineers, contractor technical representatives, and officials of other activities to plan, develop, and execute test and test support programs involving support aircraft, resolving technical and management problems to insure mission accomplishment. - As the highest level subject matter expert for the aircraft maintenance and repair work directed, participates fully with higher level management officials and staff organizations in studying and developing recommendations concerning changes in specifications, requirements, work techniques, and standards; revisions of organizational structures, responsibilities, and relationships; and improvement or modernization of equipment, facility layout, and workflow. - Represents AMU at higher levels. Works with DoD, AFMC, AFTC, Test Wing, Operations Group, and Maintenance Group program support personnel in determining and allocating the number of support aircraft and systems required to sustain and support test program workload. Reviews all appropriate planning documents and information to ensure test and test support aircraft requirements are consistently being addressed, and that test and test support fleet capabilities are thoroughly understood by Test Wing and Maintenance Group personnel. - Performs workload analysis to determine the correct number of test and test support aircraft, support personnel, and systems for test/test support aircraft and its effect on the DoD, AFMC, AFTC and Test Wing test customers. Directs long-range planning for workload associated with support aircraft and systems. Directs studies to develop and implement initiatives to meet new test/test support aircraft requirements and to minimize test/test support costs. Advises Test Wing and Maintenance Group in the development of optimum organizational and position structures assuring best use of various employment avenues to include Development Opportunity Program, handicapped program, VRA Program. - Plans and forecasts work through involvement with other DoD, AFMC and AFTC organizations for periods up to five years in advance to identify personnel and material needs, assuring support will be available for flight test programs. Manages the budget allocated for the AMU, forecasting up to five years and adjusting resources as needed. - Exercises supervisory personnel management responsibilities. Manages and supervises with full technical and administrative authority, through subordinate supervisors, the work of over 50-160 multi-skilled civilian maintenance technicians and support personnel. Plans work to be accomplished by subordinate chief, sets and adjusts long and short-term priorities, and determines schedules for completion of work. - Reviews and/or approves recommendations of subordinate supervisors pertaining to selection of personnel, disciplinary measures, commendations, and other similar personnel actions such as promotions, transfers, and reassignments. Prepares, reviews, approves/disapproves civilian performance appraisals.
