Range Control Specialist (NH-0301-03) Published April 24, 2026 About the Role: The Air Force Test Center is looking for a Full-Time Range Control Specialist (NH-0301-03) to work at 412th Test Wing, 412th Test Engineering Group, 412th Range Squadron, Range Operations Flight (412 RANS/ENRO) at Edwards Air Force Base. The 412th Range Squadron (412 RANS) mission is to provide the 412th Test Wing (412 TW) with flight test range capabilities and facilities to support the accomplishment of the flight test mission. Test support includes real-time data acquisition, managing process and display systems, operating mission control rooms (MCR), managing inter and intra-range data transmission systems, and operating the Precision Impact Range Area to meet flight test requirements. The purpose of the Range Control Specialist (RCS) position is to coordinate range resources, for directing activities of the range support disciplines, and for supporting test programs, projects, or technical efforts requiring flight or ground test data acquisition during real-time mission support operations and post-flight data archive or retrieval. The RCS may perform Lead duties required to accomplish administration and development of assigned personnel, and to protect sensitive information or government-owned equipment. Major Duties: - Manages coordination of range resources to support test programs, projects, or technical efforts requiring flight or ground test data acquisition during real-time mission support operations and post-flight data activities. - Performs as the 412 RANS mission controller for test execution support in mission control rooms or mission support areas when required. - Reviews test requirements submitted by the range user and determines from an operational and technical viewpoint the amount and type of support required, the adequacy of range resources. - Reviews Spectrum deconfliction/Airspace requirements to support specific test requirements. - Determines whether existing range resources can adequately replace the program's requested equipment and, whenever possible, recommends use of superior range resources that will provide the range user with a higher quality of data. - Prepares range documents in Universal Documentation System (UDS), Operational Requirements (OR), Operations Directive (OD), or 412 TW formats to support test program. - Reviews the range user's test support requirements, to include instrumentation, range clearance, flight or ground test safety, meteorological, and airspace during a program's period of performance. - Provides guidance to the test program team members on communication resources to include UHF/VHF/HF radios, microwave systems, and land line equipment. Knowledge includes the ability to maintain credibility with range personnel, program personnel, and subject matter experts on such technical matters, as well as knowledge of DoD acquisition and life cycle management policies, program planning, and budget cycles. Knowledge of the operations, products, services, needs, and goals of the programs supported, the range functions or resources required, and understanding the highly sophisticated aircraft data test instrumentation systems, or the capabilities of radar, telemetry, communications, microwave systems, optical/photo systems, photo laboratory, timing equipment, real-time or post-flight data acquisition systems, and the state-of-the-art flight test computer hardware/software. Ability to independently research, analyze, interpret, and apply rules, regulations, and procedures to a variety of situations and to recommend timely, economical, and innovative solutions; as well as ability to independently plan, organize work, perform long range planning, coordinate between various test discipline engineers, and coordinate with DoD, USAF, US federal, state, or local government agencies, or foreign government representatives to resolve issues related to flight test mission support.
