Outdoor Recreation Director (NH-0188-02)

About the Role:

The Air Force Test Center is looking for a Full-Time Outdoor Recreation Director  (NH-0188-02) to work at the 412th Test Wing, 412th Mission Support Group, 412th Force Support Squadron, Outdoor Recreation (412FSS/FSWO) at Edwards AFB.

To contribute to readiness and improve productivity through Services programs that promote and enhance the wellness, morale, and quality or life for the entire Edwards community.

Announcement Length/Closes: 15 Days

Location: Edwards, CA (Edwards Air Force Base)

Typical 2026 salary range: $47,490-$113,185 Per Year (includes Locality)

Areas of Consideration (AOC): Department – wide (DoD)

Desired Skills:

-2 years of outdoor adventure programming (OAP) management desired

-2 years of experience with non-appropriated fund (NAF) budget management desired

-2 years of facility and grounds maintenance coordination experience desired

Major Duties:

-Exercises supervisory personnel management responsibilities for at least 25% of the time.

-Plans work, sets priorities, assigns tasks, and evaluates the performance of subordinates.

-Interviews candidates and recommends appointments, promotions, or reassignments.

-Resolves employee complaints and administers disciplinary actions as needed.

-Plans, manages, and formulates policies for a complex outdoor recreation program.

-Supervises and coordinates classes, skill development seminars, and related contracts.

-Develops and manages annual budgets for both non-appropriated and appropriated funds.

-Manages financial operations including fund collection, deposits, and purchase orders.

-Coordinates with Civil Engineering on facility maintenance, alterations, and construction.

-Ensures adherence to health, safety, and fire regulations in all program areas.

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • U.S. Citizenship
  • Depending on the type of position (competitive/excepted) you are selected for, you will be required to serve a 1-year probationary period OR 2-year trial period
  • Upon completion of your probationary/trial period, your employment will be terminated unless you receive certification, in writing, that your continued employment advances the public interest
