About the Role:

The Air Force Test Center (AFTC) is looking for a Full-Time Airfield Management Specialist /Training Manager (NH-2150-02) to work at 412th Test Wing, Air Force Plant 42 (AFMC/412 TW/OL-AFP 42) at Air Force Plant 42 (OSAM) in Palmdale, CA.

 

Serve as the Airfield Management Training Manager, providing oversight of the training program which includes the development, implementation, supplemental, and overall oversight of the Airfield Management training program in accordance with AFMAN 13-204V1, Management of Airfield Operations, AFMAN 13-204V2, Airfield Management, and DAFI 36-2670, Total Force Development.

Typical 2026 salary range: $47,490 to $113,185 per year (includes Locality)

Travel Requirements: 25%

Incentives:

Desired Skills:

- Minimum one year experience as an airfield operations, air traffic control or similar career pathway training manger

- Three years’ experience via the AF IMT 483 Certificate of Competency or equivalent to drive on and around the airfield.   

- Three years’ experience managing, executing and or training employees on the tools required for passive and active wildlife control on and around the airfield environment.

Major Duties:

- Develops, implements and manages an Airfield Management training program.    

- Develops a training instruction to establish policy and procedure. Training must define responsibility of personnel involved in upgrade, qualification, recurring and proficiency.

- Ensures trainers use the Air Force developed Position Certification Guides. Develops additional lessons to enhance PCG lessons to meet local mission requirements. 

- Develops and administers practical and written proficiency tests at least quarterly to maintain a high standard of proficiency.

- Develops and maintains a master training record for all assigned personnel. Inspects training records monthly for accuracy, completeness and standardization. 

- Conducts daily airfield inspections/checks that Include FOD inspections, re-opening runway after in-flight emergencies and performing BASH responses. 

- Conducts an airfield check prior to the start of flight operations Inspects/checks focus on condition of runways, taxiways, aprons, operational status of airfield support facilities.

- Ensures publication of NOTAMs pertaining to airfield support facilities and air traffic services.  Advises pilots, air traffic control facilities and other on/off base agencies.

- Reviews and processes requests for Prior Permission Required, ensures all are for Official Business Only (OBO) and determines if request will be granted and processed.   

- Provides pilots detailed information critical to flight safety. Reviews flight plans with pilot for accuracy, completeness and for compliance with Air Force rules and directives.

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • U.S. Citizenship

  • Knowledge of DoW, Air Force, Federal Aviation Administration, International Civil Aviation Organization rules, and other applicable laws, regulations, instructions, and directives, as they pertain to airfield management, airfield criteria, air traffic control, and aircraft operations.
  • Knowledge of safety and security regulations, practices, and procedures.
  • Ability to analyze, plan, and adjust work operations to meet program requirements and objectives within available resources, and to mentor, motivate, and appraise the staff of an organization.
  • Ability to communicate both orally and in writing.
