Computer Scientist (NH-1550-03) Published March 24, 2026 About the Role: The Air Force Test Center is looking for a Full-Time Computer Scientist (NH-1550-03) to work at the 412th Test Wing, 412th Test Engineering Group, 412th Range Squadron, Range Engineering (412 RANS/ENRE) at Edwards Air Force Base. The mission of the Engineering Support Flight is to serve as the sustainment flight for all Range Squadron Systems. The flight is responsible for managing all Range Squadron test system support, accomplishing long range and short range internal project support planning. The flight also accomplishes development and engineering of new systems to satisfy new requirements generated by Range Squadron customers and AFTC Leadership. Announcement Length/Closes: 10 Workdays Location: Edwards, CA (Edwards Air Force Base) Typical 2026 salary range: $104,349 - $161,313 per year (includes Locality) Travel Requirements: Up to 25% travel possible Areas of Consideration (AOC): Command – wide (AFMC) Desired Skills: - 5+ years' experience programming in C# and/or C++ - 3+ years' experience programming SQL databases and writing SQL queries - 1+ years' experience in agentic coding Major Duties: - Performs professional engineering duties such as requirements gathering, design, test, upgrade and deployment of Range computer systems, virtual machine technologies and software products to support Test and Evaluation (T&E) at Edwards AFB and other DOW ranges. - Coordinates new engineering projects with internal Range subject matter experts, configuration management office, engineers, technicians, customers and leadership. - Uses modern software design and systems engineering principles to create/test solutions. - Analyzes test data to determine the accuracy and reliability of theoretical results. - Serves as an expert in Range computer systems, software architecture and operations. - Maintains the ability to express ideas clearly and analytically, document the results of technical analyses, draw conclusions and make recommendations. - Provides technical advice, guidance, assistance and training to contractors, tenant organizations, engineers, mathematicians, computer scientists, data analysts and programmers involved with AFTC projects utilizing or receiving software and hardware products from Range Engineering. - Estimates software/hardware support needed for the identification of requirements, preparation of design specifications, testing, implementation and documentation of application software programs and hardware used for customer support. - Attends and chairs meetings involving new or existing software and hardware requirements in assigned areas of specialization, projects, or functions. - Resolves complaints concerning existing systems and identifies requirements for system changes. Knowledge to apply statistically-defensible methods to test creation and validation. Ability to recognize and analyze problems, conduct research, summarize results, and make appropriate recommendations.
