About the Role:

The Air Force Test Center is looking for a Full-Time Information Technology Specialist (INFOSEC) (NH-2210-03) to work at the 412th Test Wing, 412th Mission Support Group, 412th Communications Squadron (412 CS/SCOC) at Edwards Air Force Base.

  Due to the threat posed to U.S. information operations and information systems by the information warfare activities of hostile nations and outside threat actors against U.S. communications and information, communications security (COMSEC) controls are implemented to afford the greatest protection to U.S. government systems and information. The purpose of the COMSEC account is to acquire, supply, secure and manage the cryptographic solutions necessary to secure classified and sensitive information transmissions to prevent interception and exploitation of U.S. national security information.

Typical 2026 salary range: $104,349 - $161,313 per year (includes Locality)

Desired Skills:

- Experience working with the Key Management Infrastructure (KMI)

- 1 year of COMSEC Account experience

- 1 year of COMSEC Responsible Officer (CRO) experience

Major Duties:

- Acts as the Alternate COMSEC Account Manager (CAM) in planning work and establishing priorities according to customer requirements and knowledge of subordinates

- Manages base personnel in receiving, accounting for, processing, and properly storing all physical and electronic COMSEC material and equipment until transferred to other COMSEC accounts or identified for destruction

- Assists base personnel in preparing the necessary paperwork required to process, conduct and issue COMSEC material to users and other COMSEC accounts

- Directs and administers all COMSEC account functions to ensure the proper protection of COMSEC assets affecting the security of the United States government and its allies

- Conducts initial and semi-annual inspections of Local Element facilities and activities to determine suitability to store COMSEC material, while evaluating the adequacy of administrative procedures followed

- Recommends corrective actions to base personnel and conducts follow-up activities where appropriate

- Manages COMSEC policies and directives established by higher headquarters

- Implements and administers the local KMI programs to include system configuration and operation

- Initializes the system, performs system backups, determines operator access and privilege management, reloads and configures the operating system's parameters

- Installs local COMSEC account hardware and software, including training alternates in the system operations

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • U.S. Citizenship
  • Depending on the type of position (competitive/excepted) you are selected for, you will be required to serve a 1-year probationary period OR 2-year trial period
  • Upon completion of your probationary/trial period, your employment will be terminated unless you receive certification, in writing, that your continued employment advances the public interest
  • Obtain & maintain a Top Secret Security Clearance
  • This is a designated Drug Testing Position
  • All personnel must meet DoD 8140.01, Cyberspace Workforce Management requirements as implemented in DoD 8570.01M, Information Assurance Workforce Improvement Program and are required to be certified at the Information Assurance Management (IAM) Level 1
  • Knowledge of National and AF telecommunications and IT security regulations, policies, procedures, techniques and methods. Knowledge of a wide variety of telecommunications and IT security concepts, principles, practices, standards, methods, and governing directives affecting network security and IT security disciplines, procedures, techniques and operations
  • Knowledge of Department of Defense, National Security Agency and U.S Air Force Communications Security (COMSEC) processes and procedures, electronic data transfer, and the Key Management Infrastructure (KMI)
  • Ability to research, analyze, evaluate and define operations communications security requirements and translate the requirements into specifications for equipment, systems, and services while aligning with IT communications policies and standards applicable to the U.S. Air Force and Air Force Material Command COMSEC regulations
  • Knowledge of military command structures, missions, and programs for organizations involved in information systems development and management; which includes skill in adapting analytical techniques involved and evaluation criteria to determine program effectiveness, to develop new or modified work methods and the ability to analyze and resolve unusual problems.
