About the Role:

The Air Force Test Center is looking for a Full-Time Blocker & Bracer (Wood Worker/Packer) Leader (WL -4602-08) to work at the 412th Logistics Readiness Squadron, at Edwards AFB, in Edwards, CA .

To provide packing, crafting, freight loading, and related services in the Support Services Office, in support of all Division organizational units and other AFTC organizations. Provides Inbound/ Outbound Freight customer service.

Location: Edwards, CA (Edwards Air Force Base)

Typical 2025 salary range: $68,808 - $80,224/per year (includes Locality)

Major Duties:

- Leads packing, crating, and freight loading personnel to effectively and efficiently accomplish the work of a team of multi-skilled personnel performing packing, crating, freight loading, and related. 

- Effectively leads assigned craftspersons in the timely accomplishment of the work of the division. 

- Advices supervisor of shortfalls or trends that affect the efficiency of work performance.

- Secures a variety of freight such as heavy, unbalance machinery, vehicles and other rolling stock, aircraft parts, munitions, rockets, missile; sensitive electronic equipment, and other odd-shaped cargo. 

- May perform work in the shipping/receiving warehouse or at the site of the items to be shipped, may visit site ahead of time to plan packing, crating, and loading operations for large or complex items.

- Plans the construction of, and custom builds, wooden supply, storage, or shipping containers with exteriors of irregular shape and unusual size, and interior support brackets which must be custom cut and built to fit around, against, and at places of irregular size and shape.

- Loads items in conveyances (includes rail, motor vehicle, and aircraft).  Determines load timing and sequence form information provided by shipping office, plans and executes loading operations.

- Ensures cars are loaded properly and are in an acceptable condition to safely transport freight without damage.

Qualifications/Requirements:

- U.S. Citizenship

- Must be able to pass a preemployment physical

- Knowledge of a range of materials and techniques used in the packing of freight items with unusual and irregular shapes, sensitive parts, or similar features.

- Skill in construction of wooden items to store and ship items; skill in construction of blocks, braces, and flaming members to contain cargo of irregular shapes, sizes, and weights.

- Skill in the operation of small material moving tractors, warehouse tugs, and forklift up to 10,000 pounds.

- Skill in the operation and use of a full range of hand, power, and machine tools used in the work.

- Ability to lead three or more other workers to accomplish packing and crating tasks and responsibilities.
