About the Role:

The Air Force Test Center is looking for a Full-Time Motor Vehicle Operator (Dispatcher/Transportation Assistant) - WG-5703-08 to work at the 412th Logistics Readiness Squadron, at Edwards AFB, in Edwards, CA.

 

To operate, dispatch, and document utilization of a variety of gasoline, diesel, or electric powered wheeled vehicles typically having a gross vehicle weight (GVW) of more than 32,000 pounds to transport cargo and passengers on and off the installation . Operates buses capable of carrying 16 or more passengers on and off the installation in a full range of traffic conditions and at highway speeds. Also operates fork lifts to facilitate cargo loading/unloading.

Typical 2025 salary range: $62,589 - $72,919 per year (includes Locality)

Desired Skills:

-  Knowledge of the height, weight, width, and length of the vehicles in order to judge overhead and side clearance, the turning radius, braking distance, and safe distance to be maintained from other vehicles.

- Knowledge of federal, state, and local safety and traffic rules and regulations for operating vehicles. Skill in recognizing developing hazardous road and traffic conditions, and the judgment to adjust driving methods to the practices of surrounding traffic, and to select alternate routes to avoid potential problems.

- Knowledge of and skill in loading and arranging cargo properly onto the vehicle using appropriate tie-downs such as chains, binders or straps for safe transit of cargo to prevent shifting, protect cargo, and mark dangerous or protruding cargo.

Major Duties:

• Drive one or more types of passenger buses which carry 16 or more passengers.

• Drive one or more types of medium trucks and passenger vehicles, such as platform trucks, van trucks, stake trucks, dump trucks, passenger vans, and/or shuttle buses to transport personnel, supplies, materials, and equipment.

• Drive tractor trailers and/or other vehicles typically having a GVW or more than 32,000 pounds.

• Perform a variety of duties associated with the day-to-day management of assigned vehicles.  Performs operator maintenance such as checking fluid level and air pressure in tires, cleaning and washing of vehicles, and performing inspection checklist to endure safe and proper operation.

• Dispatch and/or schedule vehicles (general and special purpose) used for the transportation of passengers, equipment, or supplies.

Qualifications/Requirements:

- U.S. Citizenship

- An appropriate, valid driver's state license to include commercial driver’s license for tractor trailer and bus with passenger endorsement is required for the position.

- This is a designated Drug Testing Position. If you are selected this position you may be subject to urinalysis testing prior to appointment and you will be subject to random urinalysis testing as a condition of employment.

- Must be able to pass a preemployment physical

- Males must be registered for Selective Service, see www.sss.gov

- Selectee is expected to be granted with and/ or maintain the appropriate security clearance required for the position.

- Position requires the ability to discern colors, contrast, and depth.

- The employee may be required to work other than normal duty hours, which may include evenings, weekends, and/or holidays.

- May be required to operate a fork lift or drive other types of motor vehicles (such as tractor-trailer) on a nonrecurring or incidental basis.

- May be required to participate in base contingency exercises.

 - This position may require travel.

- Skill in reading and understanding road maps and other locator documents, and in determining the shortest and

safest route for both the short and long runs, considering the weight and size of the vehicle and any road

restrictions.
