Aircraft Systems Repair Supervisor (WS-8801-17)

About the Role:

The Air Force Test Center is looking for a Full-Time Chief, Aircraft Systems Repair Supervisor (WS-8801-17) to work at the 412th Test Wing, 412th Maintenance Group, 412th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron/Lightning AMU (412 AMXS/MXAD) at Edwards AFB CA.

In this position, you will exercise technical and administrative supervision over subordinate supervisors and workers in accomplishing trades and labor work. To provide management for any Aircraft Maintenance Unit (AMU) within the 412th Maintenance Group. The AMU performs on-equipment inspection and repair of aircraft assigned to the 412th Test Wing. To ensure that aircraft are prepared, and mechanics perform scheduled and unscheduled inspections, maintenance and modifications on all assigned aircraft. These aircraft are typically; (a) modified with type II systems for development or test and evaluation; (b) specially instrumented to accomplish test missions; (c) assigned in support of research and development tests in which they approach design limitations; (d) in some instances are first article or early series/production prototype aircraft with an original life expectancy to cover tests only, but which have been continued in use as test support vehicles. Additionally, incumbent is responsible to ensure that troubleshooting, repair, overhaul, modifying, test and service, Pneudraulic systems, sub-systems, components, and accessories of aircraft and engines are done in accordance with applicable directives.

Typical 2026 salary range: $148,824 - $173,638 per year (includes Locality)

Desired Skills:

- Must have 2 years of Supervisory experience desired.

- Must have 4 years of flight test and test program experience, 6 years of aircraft mechanic experience desired.

- Must be knowledgeable with TC/PID/C&RE/SOC process, Staffing Management, Workforce planning, recruitment, Master Labor Agreement (MLA) and Local Supplement Agreement (LSA), Training and Performance Management (DPMAP (FWS) and CCAS (AqDemo)).

Major Duties:

- Performs work planning responsibilities. Plans and establishes long-range work requirements and schedules (typically 6 months or longer). Provides direct input or participates with engineering, production control, and other personnel during initial planning and developing of work requirements and furnishes technical advice on the suitability of existing equipment, available manpower, and appropriate work methods for short- and long-term projects.

- Performs work direction responsibilities. Assigns and explains work requirements and operating instructions to subordinate supervisors. Sets deadlines and establishes the sequence of work operations to be followed. Maintains balanced workloads by shifting assignments, workers, and other resources to achieve the most effective work operations.

- Performs administration responsibilities. Participates with subordinate supervisors/employees in the development of performance plans. Advises them in advance of performance expectations. Provides feedback on strengths and weaknesses. Makes formal appraisals of subordinate worker(s) and supervisors’ performance in accordance with regulations. Reviews performance appraisals initiated by subordinate supervisors. Rewards or uses corrective action as needed in performance management.

- Ensures education in compliance with, and practice of security directives, good safety, and health habits in all

work areas. Ensures employees with access to classified information comply with security directives. Reports all

known security violations to the proper authority immediately when discovered. Submits reports in accordance with

reporting directives. Ensures safety equipment and protective clothing/gear are worn when mandated by regulations.

Qualifications/Requirements:

- U.S. Citizenship

- Obtain & maintain a Top Secret Security clearance

- This is a designated Drug Testing Position

- Up to 25% Travel possible.

- May be required to possess a valid operator’s license to drive a motor vehicle to and from work sites.

- Knowledge of a wide range of principles, processes, and techniques of trade(s) and/or craft(s) supervised and personnel management policies, practices, and procedures, including sexual harassment and Equal Employment Opportunity/ Equal Employment Treatment.

- Knowledge of safety regulations, practices, and procedures. Ability to read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, sketches, and technical specifications.

- Ability to plan and organize work assignments to include determining resources required to accomplish mission. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

- Ability to manage overall direction and coordination of subordinate work activities and functions and implement

sound personnel policies, practices, and procedures through one or more levels of subordinate supervisors.
