About the Role:

The Air Force Test Center is looking for two Full-Time Aerospace Engineering Technicians (NJ-0802-02) to work at the 412th Test Wing, 412th Test Engineering Group, 812th Aircraft Instrumentation Test Squadron, Instrumentation Logistics (812 AITS/ENIB/ENIC) at Edwards Air Force Base, CA.  

Provides test instrumentation support to include providing instrumentation cost estimates, and technical expertise and consultation services to the test programs.  Develops and provides airborne data systems and all associated support equipment.  Provides instrumentation systems design, acquires equipment and components, provides computer-aided engineering and drafting capability, provides electrical/electronic and mechanical designs for Temporary-2 (T-2) modifications, provides program management and engineering monitoring of T-2 modifications, provides fabrication of electrical/electronic components which include printed circuit boards, calibration of transducers, testing and maintenance of instrumentation, operational support of the instrumentation, engineering authority for all T-2 modifications performed at AFTC, and limited instrumentation installation support.

Typical 2025 salary range: $47,019 - $83,859 per year (includes locality)

  • Knowledge of flight test instrumentation equipment, supplies, T-2 modification procedures, and common aircraft maintenance and repair processes with regards to flight test programs.
  • Effectively communicates as needed to coordinate work and keep chain‐of‐command, coworkers and customers informed of work‐related issues, developments and statuses.

Major Duties:

  • Prepare and maintain the required documentation for the acquisition of all materials, data systems/subsystem components and sensors necessary to accomplish instrumentation T-2 modifications and support instrumentation flight test operations as well as the required documentation and work requests for fabrication, calibration, repair or other related support requirements for instrumentation T-2 modifications and operations. 
  • Assist instrumentation engineering staff in the scheduling, coordinating, and expediting of the fabrication and assembly of items required for instrumentation T-2 modifications and flight operations support.  Also includes accomplishing engineering change Instructions, review of engineering change proposals for equipment/component/parts impacts and the receiving, inventory, and assembly of materials and components into T-2 modification engineering project kits.
  • Provide engineering related support to instrumentation engineering staff for aircraft instrumentation data acquisition system T-2 modifications and configuration changes, including fabrication, calibrations, testing, troubleshooting and repair as well as related support for instrumentation flight test operations. 
  • Conduct research of test requirements, identification of equipment and parts operations for T-2 modifications of flight test vehicles.  Evaluate the engineering and technical data in the selection of equipment, parts and components in accordance with engineering specifications, schematics, blueprints and technical drawings and compile the related data for engineering review.
  • Establish and maintain record-keeping systems as necessary to inventory, control, and track all instrumentation T-2 modification and record-keeping systems for tracking instrumentation project status.

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • U.S. Citizenship
  • Obtain & maintain Security Clearance
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment physical (able to assist with physical movement of heavy equipment requiring the lifting and/or carrying of items weighing up to 50 pounds unassisted or up to 200 pounds with assistance from other personnel and materials moving devices)
  • Ability to analyze drawings, blueprints, schematics, and other technical data in the evaluation and selection of equipment and parts for instrumentation T-2 modifications and operations and to accomplish technical goals and objectives.
  • Knowledge of electronics and mechanical practices, and components as it pertains to instrumentation T-2 modifications and of developmental test and evaluation operational support of airborne instrumentation systems.
  • Ability to plan and organize work and to coordinate with other engineering technicians, project engineers, and maintenance and support personnel.
  • Understand the principles of logistic supply systems, equipment management, and contracting activities in the acquisition, receiving, shipping, and control of group A and B components in support of T-2 modifications.
