5/9/2012 - EDWARDS AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. -- (Left) Lt. Gen. James Kowalski, commander of Air Force Global Strike Command, speaks to Brig. Gen. Robert C. Air Force Global Strike Command, activated Aug. 7, 2009, is a major command headquartered at Barksdale Air Force Base, La. AFGSC is responsible for the nation's three intercontinental ballistic missile wings, two B-52 wings and the only B-2 wing. Its mission is to develop and provide combat-ready forces for nuclear deterrence and global strike operations -- safe, secure, effective -- to support the President of the United States and Combatant Commanders.
