An Edwards sergeant recently won the Air Force Materiel Command Annual Airfield Operations Enlisted Facility Manager of the Year Award.

Master Sgt. Michael Brown, with the 412th Operations Support Squadron, received the award for his accomplishments as the Edwards Control Tower chief controller.

Sergeant Brown is responsible for keeping air and ground space safe for flying and taking care of the people within the tower's organization.

"He leads a team of 20 military and civilian air traffic controllers and was hand-selected to revise the Weighted Airman Promotion System world-wide," said Lt. Col. Chris Wheeler, 412th Operations Support Squadron commander.

Sergeant Brown has also helped orchestrate the shuttle landing preparations and training here.

Along with leading an air traffic control team, Sergeant Brown has successfully mitigated more than 200 ground and air emergencies. He has also assisted a flight safety investigation on two aircraft accidents.

Sergeant Brown said he was flattered to receive this award.

"We have won several awards in the airfield operations flight recently, so winning it with them has made my award very special," Sergeant Brown said. "It's a great recognition of me and of the people who work with me. Nobody in my position ever receives awards like these, unless the people working for them do a good job and work hard."

Sergeant Brown said the best part of his job is getting the opportunity to meet new people everyday.

"I get to make an impact on the people who work for me," Sergeant Brown said. "If you can make an impact on people, then your job becomes easy."
