The Air Force Test Center is looking for a Full-Time Chief of Range Safety (NH-0801-04) to serve at the 412 Test Wing Safety Office, at Edwards Air Force Base, California.

This position has a typical 2024 salary range of $142,094 - $184,725 (includes locality).

Position specific skills and experience desired in a potential candidate:
- Deep engineering experience serving at the CTF level with experience in the test safety review process
- Familiar with range operations and safety
- Supervisory experience desired (hiring employees, annual appraisals, etc.)
- Familiarity with flight termination system engineering
The Test and Range Safety Office provides Range safety support to ensure that the general public, test area personnel, public and private lands, and test area resources are provided an acceptable level of safety, and that test operations adhere to public laws and Department of Defense directives. This office supports the customer through the development of weapon safety footprints, flight termination system design and certification compliance with Range Commander's Council standards, laser safety analysis, and real-time mission support. This includes inter- and intra-range safety analysis, planning, coordination, and test execution.
Major Duties
• Serves as supervisor/rating official for personnel assigned to the office.
• Serves as Chief of the Range Safety Division within the Test Wing Safety office, serving as the Test Wing’s range safety subject matter expert.
• Responsible for: laser operations, directed energy operations, range ground and explosive safety, landing zone/drop zone operations, weapons impact footprints, flight termination debris footprints.
• Advises the Test Wing Commander on safe conduct of range operations and highlights program aspects with elevated risk to make leadership aware of the impacts.
Qualifications/Requirements
- U.S. Citizenship
- Obtain & maintain Top Secret clearance
- This is a designated Drug Testing Position
- Engineering degree required
- DAWIA Certification at Advanced level
- Approximately three weeks of travel per year
- Expert knowledge of advanced concepts, principles, and techniques across multiple interrelated and integrated technical and test engineering disciplines.
- Expert knowledge of test and range safety evaluation involving flight sciences, avionics systems, and electronic warfare disciplines.
- Expert knowledge of flight and laboratory air vehicle/missile/weapon test conduct, coordination and supervision, data analysis/evaluation and applicable flight test truth sources, modeling and simulation, safety package preparation, and administrative aspects of flight test programs.
- Strong ability to plan and organize work, coordinate between various electronic/aerospace/mechanical engineering and test disciplines, and coordinate with other Air Force, DoD, and other domestic and foreign government agencies.
