Lead Police Officer (MWD) (GS-0083-08) Published April 7, 2026 About the Role: The Air Force Test Center is looking for a Perm Position Lead Police Officer (MWD) (GS-0083-08) to work at the 412th Security Forces Squadron S3K, AFMC at Edwards AFB, CA. To serve as Lead Police Officer for the Military Working Dog (MWD) Section. Administers a comprehensive specialized MWD training program to military and civilian teams and conduct on-post evaluations and prepares teams for certifications. Interdicts illegal narcotics, explosive devices, and illegal activity on a Federal installation. (Military or Civilian). Experience with team readiness, proficiency and preparedness on the installation through the use of training activities, validation and certification processes. Major Duties: • Responsible for leading and personally performing the following duties: Enforces the criminal laws of the United States, the Uniform Code of Military Justice, Air Force regulations and instructions as they apply in the areas of Air Force jurisdiction. • Performs law enforcement work in the preservation of peace; the prevention, detection, and preliminary investigation of crimes; the arrest or apprehension of violators and provides assistance to citizens in emergency situations. • Gives on the job training to new employees in accordance with established procedures and practices. Assists supervisory police officers in performing or completing assigned tasks. • Checks on work in progress, spot checks work not requiring review, and/or reviews completed work to see that the supervisor’s instructions on procedures, methods, and deadlines have been met. • Instruction spans the broad spectrum of the MWD arena to include, but not limited to, explosive detector dog, narcotic detector dog, patrol dog, gunfire agitation, pursuit of suspects, attacking/apprehending, guarding, escorting suspects, hand and verbal commands, searching structures with dog on and off leash, and patrolling both on foot and in vehicle. • Responsible for the ensuring that adequate provisions are made for the health, safety, and well-being, of assigned MWDs and ensures handlers properly care for their assigned MWD. • Trainer will design, plan, develop, and implement specialized training programs sufficient in scope to produce a highly trained and proficient MWD Section. • Knowledge of police officer procedures and operating methods to perform the full range of police officer activities independently. • Knowledge of rights of detained individuals and organizational rules regarding the appropriated use of force to be used in the apprehension of persons. • Develops written guidelines for a variety of on-post evaluations, documenting deficiencies. Must pass an initial pre-employment medical examination, periodic medical examinations, meet established hearing standards and discern colors, contrast, and depth, and required initial and annual Department of the Air Force Civilian Police (DACP) Physical Agility Test. Must pass formal law enforcement training school as determined by AF/A4S and obtain DoW Peace Officer Standardization and Training Certification. Knowledge of applicable law enforcement and security AF, Federal and Dow rules, regulations, instructions, practices, principals, and procedures including force protection, integrated base defense, anti-terrorism, and physical security. Incumbent must graduate an approved DoD military working dog formal training course or other federal agency-level working dog course that has been preapproved, in writing. Knowledge of safety, security, and EEO regulations, practices, and procedures. Incumbent must attend the DoD MWD kennel master course at least 18 months from graduating DoW military working dog formal training course.
