Seeking Five Volunteer Representatives for Base Restoration Advisory Board

Edwards Air Force Base officials are seeking volunteers to represent five different

communities on the Restoration Advisory Board,

specifically Boron, North Edwards, South Base, North Base and NASA Armstrong.

The RAB facilitates communication between the public and officials responsible
for environmental cleanup at Edwards AFB.

Base public representatives act solely as a conduit for environmental cleanup information

and are not expected to be environmental experts. Responsibilities include

distributing a quarterly newsletter, circulating meeting flyers and attending semiannual meetings.

Applicants should be accessible within their respective area and willing to publicize contact information.

Individuals interested in serving on the RAB must be at least 18 years of age and work or live in the area they seek to represent.

Terms of service are two years in length. Military members, civil service and contractor employees are welcome to apply.

Captive Tortoises Need Base Resident Foster Parents

Environmental Management has captive desert tortoises that will soon be available for new foster families.

Fostering a desert tortoise provides the unique opportunity to observe this threatened species up close.

Captive tortoises play an important role in the survival of a threatened species by serving as ambassadors,

spreading awareness, and aiding in education/training programs.

In addition to spreading awareness and education, the goal of EAFB Desert Tortoise Foster Program

is to prevent captive Desert tortoises from being released into the wild, and to prevent the taking of wild desert tortoises into captivity.

The program also provides a means of tracking captive desert tortoises on base as required by the United States Fish and Wildlife Service.

Fostering through this program is free but limited to base residents who are 18 years of age or older and live in base housing.

Dorm residents cannot foster adult tortoises due to outdoor space limitations.

Privacy Tips: Stay Safe on Vacation and Travel

No matter how you get to your destination or where you choose to stay, you will be connected when you’re on vacation. Many travelers rely on technology even more to enhance their experience. As you embark upon your next adventure, stay cyber safe while away from home by following some simple practices to help keep your devices safe and your vacation plans from going awry.
- Set the privacy and security settings on web services and apps. It is okay to limit how and with whom you share information (like location tracking) – especially when you are away.
- Location tools come in handy while planning navigating a new place, but they can also expose your location ? even through photos. Turn off location services when not in use.
- Do not transmit personal info or make purchases on unsecure or public Wi-Fi networks. Instead, use a virtual private network (VPN) or your phone as a personal hotspot to surf more securely
- Think twice before posting pictures that indicate you are away. Wait until you get home to share your magical memories.
- Avoid public computers in hotel lobbies and internet cafes. If you must use a public computer, keep activities as generic and anonymous as possible. Don’t log into accounts or access sensitive information. If you do log into accounts, such as email, always click “logout” when you are finished. Simply clicking the “x” on your browser does not log you out of accounts.

Base Records Announcement

In accordance with AFI33-322, Records Management and Information Governance Program,

the Government Paper Reduction Act requires that all paper records be converted to a digital format no
later than 16 December 2022. Please note that the 16 December suspense date is
only to convert all paper records into digital format as the local Base Records
Office is no longer accepting paper records for staging.

To support this suspense, the 412CS/SCOK office has established a
scanning room equipped with two separate stations connected to a large
high-speed scanner for unit
members to come and scan in any paper records needing to be converted to electronic
format.

In order to ensure stations are openly available, organizations must
contact 661-277-8003. , to set up an appointment to scan in any records accordingly. Contact 412CS/SCOK for further
record inquiries.

Mask Mandate on Edwards

Starting 29 July, indoor mask wear will be mandatory (with exceptions), independent of vaccination status until further notice. Wear of a surgical mask or better will be mandatory for all indoor settings at Edwards AFB and AF Plant 42. All masks must be properly worn. Surgical masks or better will be issued to all 412 TW personnel at no-cost to the member when supplies become available. Distribution of the masks is being coordinated through LRS by 15 August 2022.

The Bioenvironmental Engineering Flight is pleased to present the Edwards Air Force Base and Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) 2021 Annual Water Quality Reports. We feel it is important our customers know about where our water comes from, what it contains, and how it compares to requirements set by regulatory agencies. This report is a snapshot of last year’s water quality.

Last year, as in years past, the main base tap water met or exceeded all U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) and State drinking water health requirements.

Employee Vehicle Reporting Mandatory Compliance
In accordance with AFMAN 32-7002, “Civil Engineering: Environmental Compliance and Pollution Prevention,”

EAFBI 32-218, “Security: Motor Vehicle Traffic Supervision,” and the Federal Clean Air Act Section 118(2),

all base personnel (military and civilian, but not contractors or NAF) are required to register in the

Employee-vehicle Certification and Reporting System (ECARS) to ensure emission compliance.

This applies to all vehicles driven on Edwards more than 60 days per calendar year,

regardless of where the vehicle is registered.

National Immunizations Month Table Talks

August is National Immunizations Month. The MDG is sponsoring an Immunizations Table Talk to answer questions and highlight the importance of vaccines at any stage of life.

West Palmdale vanpool looking for riders

Are you frustrated at paying over $5 a gallon for fuel to drive to work? Do you like dealing with the
traffic day after day with your daily commute?

Would you like to save some money by not having to fill your vehicle twice or more per week to make the trip to and from the base?

Are you aware that the US Government provides some funds for you to join a vanpool?

With enough riders you can have your share of the costs for the van completely covered.

I have a few openings in my vanpool and would like to help you save some money by joining, as well.

Vanpool will leave the mall Monday thru Friday around 0600 and arrive on base around 0700 departing base at 1630 for the return trip.

Currently, vanpool has five people in it but would like a couple more to join to help spread the wealth.
